Futuros Líderes Endowed Scholarship

The Southwest Michigan Cesar E. Chavez Committee has established the Futuros Líderes Endowed Scholarship in order to support the University’s diversity goals of recruitment and retention of students that meet the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshmen or current full-time student at Western Michigan University
  • First generation college student
  • Work experience in agricultural labor or the service sector is preferred
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Priority will be given to students from the following Michigan counties: Allegan, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren
  • Annual awards will be granted based on availability of funds to: a) at least one incoming first-year student, b) at least one current WMU student, c) if funds are available to others in the application pool
  • Scholarship selection committee is comprised of three members of the Southwest Michigan Cesar Chavez Committee, and and two members of the WMU Latino Employees Association. At least one committee member will be a WMU faculty member. Special consideration based on committee’s decision
