50 Years of Friendship

50 Years of Friendship
When the Bronco Football team hosted the MSU Spartans for the opening game of the season, Broncos from all over the country gathered to watch the game—at Waldo and on t.v.

One of the groups is pictured here. Bill MacMIllan (’67), James Karagon (’67), John Duncan (’68), and John Janzaruk (’69) traveled to WMU from as far away as Florida to watch the game and celebrate a friendship 50 years in the making.

According to Karagon, over the years they’ve remained close. Most notably attending each other’s weddings; Karagon enjoys dinner once a week with Janzaruk and visiting Duncan when he goes to Lansing; Karagon, MacMillan, and Duncan all traveled together to see the Broncos play the International Bowl in Toronto; Duncan travels to Detroit see the Tigers play the Red Sox; and Karagon heads down to Florida each spring to take in some Tiger’s Spring Training with MacMillan.

It all began in Henry Hall in 1962 when Karagon and Janzurak became accidental roommates. MacMillan was living in an adjoining wing when they met him. The following year, they were among the first residents of Shilling Hall in Valley I.

Duncan became a part of the group when they all pledged Delta Upsilon, which no longer has a chapter at WMU. Karagon and MacMillan lived in the frat house for a year before all four moved to Hamlet Apartments.

Today, MacMillan is living in Orlando (and drove from Orlando for the game and back the next day), Karagon in Detroit, Duncan (who also has a Master’s degree from MSU) in Lansing, and Janzaruk (an ex-Bronco football player) in Harrison Twp., Mich.
