This award is the highest honor bestowed by the institute and is reserved for those who have made significant contributions to PMI and project management on a global scale for more than a decade. It recognizes those who not only have a broad range of vision in their chosen field, but also those with a great deal of passion for project management.
After she graduated from WMU, Miersma managed projects in the wood handling department of a pulp mill. Miersma has worked with a spectacular array of organizations throughout her professional career, such as Procter and Gamble, MeadWestvaco, and the Canadian Cancer society. Miersma is currently focusing her career on non-profit governance.
“My current interest is to expand project management into not-for-profit organizations as well as engage youth in the 21st century skills that are at the core of project management,” Miersma said. “Children are often assigned projects in school, but are rarely taught how to manage projects effectively.”
Miersma has previously worked as an officer with the PMI Educational Foundation as well as the PMI Board of Directors and has spoken at a variety of project management conferences. Miersma is making academic outreach a number one priority.
