The Western Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors will start the new fiscal year with new leadership and several new members. The board is responsible for helping to oversee many key alumni-focused initiatives in the WMU Alumni Association, while fostering a sense of engagement between the University and its more than 250,000 alumni living around the world.
The WMU Alumni Association congratulates the three current members of the WMU Alumni Association Board of Directors who were elected to serve one-year terms as officers on the 2020-21 Board, effective July 1, 2020.
Sarah Husain (B.B.A. ’06, Management), a senior manager for Stryker from Kalamazoo, will be serving as the new board president. She notes, “During these challenging times for both our University and our communities, I am honored to lead the Alumni Association Board as we work together to serve the WMU alumni of 250,000 strong and to help develop lifelong engagement with WMU.”
Joy McClendon (B.B.A.’78, Business Administration; MBA ’94) of Saugatuck, MI, a retired senior director for Pfizer, will serve as vice president; and Jason Shorb (B.B.A ’97, Business Administration) of Atlanta, a director for Intercontinental Hotels Group, will serve as treasurer.
The association is pleased to announce three newly elected members were welcomed to the board on July 1: Heather Stanley (B.A.’99, Secondary Education), an area leader for Calhoun Intermediate School District’s MI Excel Statewide Field Team, of Redford, MI; Jennifer Steiner, B.A.’09, Arts & Sciences), Coordinator for Student Academic Success Services at the University of Minnesota, of Minneapolis, MN; and Mitch Zajac, (B.S.’12, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering; M.E.’13) an associate practicing in Butzel Long’s Detroit office, of Howell, MI.
The WMU Alumni Association extends gratitude to the following outgoing members, who have dedicated their time and talents to our mission: Robert Kennedy (B.S. '89, Arts & Sciences) of Dewitt, MI, President, Capitol Affairs, who was elected to the board in 2014; and Lisa Krejcik (B.A. '99, Arts & Sciences) of Hanover, MI, RTI Teacher, Hanover Horton Elementary School, who was elected to the board in 2014.
The Western Michigan University Alumni Association Board of Directors oversees the Legacy Scholarship and Distinguished Alumni Award programs, and actively supports alumni engagement.
