Award-Worthy Alumnae
Three WMU alumnae have been nominated for the 41st Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards, which honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Judges attended the opening nights for 147 productions at 65 non-equity producing organizations, recommending 66 of those shows and making them eligible for nominations. In all, 33 Chicago theatre companies received nominations.

Nora Ulrey (BA ’12, Theatre Performance) was nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role-Play for her work in ‘The Children’s Hour.’ Victoria Blade (BA ’10, Theatre Performance) was nominated for Actress in a Supporting Role-Musical for her part in ‘Sweet Smell of Success.’ Allison Hendrix (BFA ’07, Music Theatre Performance) was nominated for Actress in a Principal Role-Musical for her part in ‘The Last Five Years.’

“This unprecedented acknowledgement of award-worthy performances by alumni of the Department of Theatre reminds audiences all over the country and the world of the great talent and instruction we have here at WMU,” said Joan Herrington, department chair and professor of Theatre.

The Jeff Awards has been honoring outstanding theatre artists since it was established in 1968, and is committed to celebrating the vitality of Chicago area theatres by fostering artistic growth. The public is invited to the award ceremony on June 2. More information about the awards, as well as ticket sales, can be found online at jeffawards.org
