Discovering Science

Discovering Science
Giant Telescopes, Solid-State Batteries, and Uranium becoming nuclear fuel are just a few of the topics you can learn more about from Trace Dominguez (BA ’05, Psychology) on the Discovery Digital Networks’ flagship show, DNews.

Originally appearing on Youtube, the show grew to attract more than 1.8 million subscribers, so Discovery decided to air it on the Science Channel. During the week of April 11, President Obama will be a special host to the daily segments.

Dominguez first began working for the Discovery Network as an intern while he was completing a master’s degree in communication at American University. During his internship, Dominguez was asked to analyze the social media practices for Discoverynews.com, only to find several years later that he would be implementing his own suggestions. Among his original analysis, Dominguez had suggested a better and more comprehensive use of video. The idea for DNews was born, and Dominguez became a writer, producer, and host.

In December, 2012, the weekly video series was launched and promptly began to gain attention—from as far as the White House.

Aside from having the honor of the President hosting your show for a week, on April 13, Dominguez was in Washington D.C. for the White House Science Fair.

You can find DNews online at Youtube, or you can tune in the Science Channel at 9 p.m. to view the segments.

Trace Dominguez is originally from Dewitt, Michigan. Originally an engineering major, he switched to psychology because of his interest in ‘what makes people tick.’ When asked by acquaintances where he attended college, Dominguez enjoys telling people about WMU and confirming that -- yes, there really is a Kalamazoo.

Dominguez is also involved with two other shows, TestTubeNews and SeekerStories.
