Acumen Fund, a pioneering nonprofit global venture firm is working to change the way the world tackles poverty by investing in social enterprises, emerging leaders, and breakthrough ideas. It invests patient capital in business models that deliver critical goods and services to the world's poor, improving the lives of millions.

Recently, 20 young professionals from Pakistan were chosen by the fund for their dedication to transforming Pakistan into a poverty free society.

Abubakr Siddique (BBA '04, Management) is one of those twenty. Siddique is the chief coordinator of Akhuwat, a company that provides interest-free micro finance services with a sustainable approach to development. More than 250,000 families across 85 cities in Pakistan have benefited from Akhuwat, which has a 99.85% recovery rate.

The Pakistan Fellows program is only part of Acumen's investment in leadership and community. Acumen Fund has invested $7 million Pakistan since 2001, focusing on a wide range of sustainable, scalable business in agriculture, housing, health, water and energy that use market-based approaches to deliver products and services to millions of rural and urban poor.

Additionally, Acumen has a fellows program in East Africa and they intend to launch similar programs in West Africa and India.
