“My favorite class was fitness testing with Timothy Michael. I considered going into cardiac rehabilitation. Timothy Michael’s enthusiasm and passion came out in the class and felt 100% prepared for my internship.” Suvada said. “Debra Berkey left a mark and I continue to think of her often. She always made time for me during her office hours and encouraged me to grow outside of my comfort zone. She was my mentor and the first person to shake my hand and congratulate me when I walked with my diploma.”
Some of Suvada’s favorite experiences at WMU came from her involvement with Phi Epsilon Kappa, an honors fraternity for exercise science. She served as p resident during her senior year and secretary her junior year.
In her current role at Motorola, Suvada utilizes skills that she learned at WMU, in her daily work conducting fitness evaluations and work output determinations, exercise prescription testing, body composition assessment, heart rate and blood pressure response tests, and reviewing the results of fitness evaluations. She also says her education was instrumental in learning to teach and demonstrate appropriate modifications of specific exercises for a variety of populations, such as older adults, pregnant and postnatal women, persons with lower back pain, and people with diabetes. Suvada also has the chance to create programming to inform and help employees with a variety of wellness issues, like quitting smoking and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
