Mayers Gets the Cup

Mayers Gets the Cup
Jamal Mayers (BBA '96, Marketing) was one of the first players to hoist the Stanley Cup into the air after the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins in the finals. This is his first "encounter" with the cup.

While Mayers did not appear in the Cup Finals, he was given the honor due to his seniority—and the fact that he still contributed to the team's greatness this season. Whether his name will be included on the cup is a different story. Due to a shortened season among other factors, Mayers did not play quite enough games to have his name on the cup. The Hawks can appeal that decision and from the looks of news and sports blogs and websites—a lot of people would back that action.

Mayers left WMU and the Bronco Hockey team  in 1996 to move on to a long pro career playing for teams like the St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the San Jose Sharks; earning an 'abrasive' reputation along the way.
