Trent pointed out that WMU offers the ONLY Ph.D program in Evaluation and that the University stood by her in times of difficulty—helping her make her dreams a reality.
If you haven’t heard of Trent, you have some reading to do. Born in Zimbabwe, she was married at 11 and had given birth three times before the age of 18… But in 2009, she received her Ph.D from WMU. She is now trying to help the very school in Zimbabwe that turned her away because she was female.
It also was in 2009 when Trent first appeared on Oprah. She would later be invited back to receive a surprise check—totaling $1.5 million and a three-year commitment from Save the Children to assist her in fulfilling her dream of building a school in her hometown in Zimbabwe.
