The College of Fine Arts, the Lee Honors College, and the College of Education and Human Development all have new leadership; the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences has announced an interim dean. Meet the New Deans!
College of Fine Arts
Daniel Guyette, dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts at Western Washington University, has been named dean of Western Michigan University's College of Fine Arts, effective Aug. 15.
Guyette has a professional theatre background in addition to his career in higher education. He brings 24 years of experience in teaching and administration to the position, including nine years as a dean, overseeing two fine arts colleges. His appointment includes a position as a tenured professor in the Department of Theatre.
Guyette replaces Dr. Margaret Merrion, dean of the college for the past 13 years. To read more about Dean Guyette, please click here.
Lee Honors College
Dr. Carla M. Koretsky, professor of geosciences and associate dean of Western Michigan University's Lee Honors College, has been named dean of the Lee Honors College.
Koretsky has served as honors college associate dean since 2012. She was one of three finalists for the position who were identified in early April and who made formal presentations on campus during the final few weeks of the spring semester.
Koretsky replaced Dr. Nicholas Andreadis, who retired from WMU at the end of the 2012-13 academic year. To read more about Dean Koretsky, please click here.
College of Education and Human Development
Dr. Ming Li, interim executive director of the Center for International Studies at Ohio University, will take the reins of programs now part of WMU's original academic discipline, the College of Education and Human Development. He brings a 10-year history of academic management to the task.
Li replaces Dr. Walter Burt, who has served as dean on an interim basis since October 2012. To read more about Dean Li, please click here.
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Dr. Edmund Tsang, associate dean of Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has been named interim dean of the college.
Tsang will lead the college while a national search is underway to find a new dean to replace Dr. Anthony Vizzini, who left WMU at the end of June to become the vice president for academic affairs at Wichita State University. A campus wide search committee is being led by Dr. Earlie Washington, dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
