Western Michigan University news and updates for September 5 -11, 2014. This week’s campus photo features Brown Hall, named for William R. Brown. A faculty member of the English Department for 39 years beginning in 1917, Dr. Brown was the department chair from 1946-56. A plaque honoring Dr. Brown reads:
“His verve gave life to books and books to lives.”
Brown Hall was completed in 1967 and dedicated as part of the “Liberal Arts Complex,” which also included Sprau Tower and Shaw Theatre, on May 4, 1968.
The five story building has roughly 58,258 square feet and was renovated in the mid 2000s to meet current teaching standards, improve infrastructure, comply with green building guidelines, and include specialized labs. The building houses classrooms and labs for communication, English, and world languages.
