Headed to Jamaica

Headed to Jamaica
Gillian Asque will be heading to Jamaica in March—but she certainly won't be for a relaxing vacation. The WMU volleyball player and environmental science major will be traveling to the island to work out with her new team, Jamaica's senior women's volleyball team. Her first tournament with the team will take place in May in Canada.

Her sister, Simone, will also be joining the team, making the first sister duo ever to play on the team. Born in Chicago, the sisters are eligible because their mother was born in Jamaica.

Currently, Jamaica isn't known for its volleyball team. The combination of new Brazilian coach and the Asque sisters brings a boost to the team. The possibilities of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro are slim, but as the Kalamazoo Gazette pointed out, stranger things have happened with Jamaican teams (think bobsledding).
