“It’s hard to believe that it has been only seven years ago this October that community interest in a new medical school was sparked, said WMU President John M. Dunn. “In that short period of time, we have gone from an idea to reality.”
WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine was made possible by the $100 million foundational gift donated by Homer Stryker’s granddaughter, Ronda Stryker, and her husband, William Johnston. The medical school facility on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus has its roots in life science research and discovery. The property was the first piece of land Dr. Upjohn purchased in Kalamazoo to start The Upjohn Company. William Parfet, chairman and CEO of MPI Research in Mattawan and great-grandson of Dr. Upjohn, donated the facility to the medical school in December 2011. The donors were honored and recognized at the event.
