Student Athletes Say Thank You!

Student Athletes Say Thank You!
In today's world of Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat it is sometimes easier to text or tweet a 'Thank you' to someone. In most cases it usually ends up being abbreviated to simply 'Thx.' Western Michigan student-athletes are working with the WMU Office of Development & Alumni Relations to do something radical ... they are picking up the phone and hand-writing notes to say thank you.

"The athletic department has wanted to thank its donors in a different way. We decided that taking this next step to have the student-athletes actually call the donors and let them know how big of an impact it has, not only on the athletic department but on the student-athletes' overall experience at Western Michigan was really important," said Nina Laney, a member of the WMU Development & Alumni Relations staff.

Nina is not just an employee of Western Michigan University, she is also a former student-athlete. She was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the WMU softball team under her maiden name of Nina Ojala.  Laney is married to former WMU punter Jim Laney who holds the record for career punting average (41.0 ypp) during his time in the Brown & Gold (2005-07).
