Students Serve in Memory

In honor of Veterans Day, over 300 first-year students traveled to Fort Custer's National Cemetery in early November to clean the headstones of deceased veterans. The students represented more than 14 sections of Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business First Year Seminar courses. Eleven course instructors, including student co-facilitators, led the students in this significant project.

The project was formed from the service co-curricular component of the First Year Experience 2100 course. In the past, business students involved in the course have undertaken other community service projects, but this is the first time all the FYE 2100 business students have undertaken the same project.

The project was selected to allow the first-year students the opportunity to learn about the value of community service, community bonding among first-year business students, and the opportunity to learn more about those that have served our country.
