Robert (Rob) Bixby served as the editor and publisher of March Street Press and Parting Gifts magazine. He published the works of many authors and introduced students throughout his career to the world of creative writing.
He was born in Mount Pleasant, Mich. and earned a Bachelor of Arts at Central Michigan University, a Masters of Social Work at Western Michigan University and a Masters of Fine Arts at UNC Greensboro. He worked at the library at UNCG at the time of his death in October 2012, and also served his country in the Navy and honorably discharged.
To honor Robert and the contribution he made to the creative writing profession, his wife Kathy, along with family and friends of Robert, are establishing the Robert Bixby Creative Writing Award at Western Michigan University. The award will be given to an outstanding creative writing undergraduate and rotate each year among the four genres (fiction, poetry, playwriting and non-fiction).
