Brett Freed never played baseball at WMU. He never played in the big leagues. He didn’t even have a blazing fast ball. But he was a ‘star’ player for his team, and he was always one of the first kids to be picked to play. He had strong skill, but he had an even stronger desire. Brett was a pitcher, but he could fill in anywhere on the field. He worked hard and never gave up, even after becoming quadriplegic from a car accident while still in high school. He could no longer play baseball, but he remained a loyal fan to the sport that he loved. Brett continued to work hard and always remained positive. He became a role model to those around him for his unstoppable determination, strength, and courage. Brett Freed died unexpectedly at the age of 35. He never stopped believing in himself, and he never stopped believing in his team—a living legacy to all players who step out on the baseball diamond.
