Western Michigan University news and update highlights for July 19 - 25, 2013. This week's campus photo features Waldo Stadium sometime after completion in 1939. In celebration of 75 years of football at Waldo Stadium, WMU Athletics has created the #Waldo75 campaign.
The first game ever played in Waldo Stadium was on October 7, 1939. Some 15,000 fans gathered to watch the Hilltoppers beat Miami University 6-0. Upon completion in 1939, the stadium cost $250,000 to construct and held 15,000 fans. Today, the stadium holds 30,200 Bronco Fans.
