Western Michigan University news and update highlights from around the web for August 23 - 29, 2013. This week's campus photo features new students on campus for Fall Welcome.
The four-day program was designed to help new students' academic and social transition to college life. After moving in, students participate in tours, after-dark activities, orientation sessions, Stadium Night, a Matriculation Ceremony followed by Buster's Buffet, activities in Downtown Kalamazoo, and much more.
Many of the events are run by students, Fall Welcome Ambassadors. These upper class student leaders volunteer their time to serve as peer leaders for small groups of first-year students.
Fall Welcome is part of the larger FIrst-Year Experience Programs, which include orientation and the first-year seminar. To learn more about the Office of First-Year Experience, please visit their website by clicking here.
The Bronco Marching Band was also practicing in full swing this week, gearing up for a busy fall semester. The Kalamazoo Gazette stopped by practice outside of Lawson Ice Arena to talk to some of the 280-members in the Bronco Marching Band. Click here to read more.
