WMU is adding a little excitement to the long, cold winter months. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations is planning the first ever MyWMU Winter Carnival for February 16. All events will take place near Goldsworth Valley Pond and the Intramural Sports Fields on WMU's west campus.
The carnival is built around the already popular Special Olympics 2013 Polar Plunge at Goldsworth Valley Pond. In addition to the plunge, the event will feature other winter-related activities such as an outdoor ice rink, and two sporting tournaments: softball and flag football. Live music and other performances including a Battle of the Bands competition, a warming tent, sledding, a snowman building contest, duct tape derby and much more are also planned for the event.
Plenty of chili and hot chocolate will be on hand for warming up after having fun in the snow. Additional menu items will be available from some of Kalamazoo's favorite restaurants and vendors.
The carnival will open on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with a schedule packed full of events that will be fun for everyone. MyWMU plans to build up the event over the years to feature more activities and become an established Winter event at the University.
The permanent schedule of events and registration forms are found at MyWMU.com/wintercarnival.
