An ambassador is someone who represents or promotes a specific activity. As an Alum of Western Michigan University, you have the opportunity to do just that for your Alma Mater.
Each year, thousands of students take an interest in matriculating at WMU. At the same time, hundreds of Alumni Admissions Ambassadors volunteer for their Alma Mater by writing congratulatory postcards to those who have been admitted. The postcards also serve as an encouraging nudge to enroll at Western.
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations provides the postcards, addresses, and stamps. We even send along a suggested message. The ambassadors are asked to send about 10 postcards 2 or 3 times between November and March.
"This is a great program that gives Alumni the opportunity to support their Alma Mater in a different way. It's more like mentoring; these volunteers make a difference for students while helping the University achieve it's enrollment goals," explained Hardy Figueroa, Associate Director, Office of Development & Alumni Relations, and coordinator of the Alumni Admissions Ambassador program.
Imagine preparing for your college career and going through the process of choosing the school that will best help you achieve your goals. Now imagine receiving a personalized, hand-written note from someone who walked down that path before you. Aside from the ability to connect with some of WMU's newest students—the program allows Alumni, just like you, to take an active role in the continued success of the University.
Ambassadors live all over the country and range from recent graduates to alumni who left more than 40 years ago. Alumni are preferred, as they can speak specifically about their experiences at students at WMU.
