Bronco Dads and Kids

Father’s day inspired us to collect stories of Bronco Dads and Children—below are a few of our favorites.

A Dad and Daughter’s Day

“My daughter and I are both working hard to graduate together from WMU in the spring of '13.  Mary will be getting her BBA in finance and I am completing my masters in Public Administration.

As a WMU alumnus, employee and student, this is the best gift a Bronco Dad can ever get!  Next year on father's day we'll be celebrating our recent graduations and looking forward to less school and new adventures. What an exciting year this is going to be!”

- Mike Hodgkinson, Building Commissioning Administrator (BBA ’03, Management) and daughter, Mary

“As a Bronco Dad, I am now tracking my Bronco Son's WMU career. Western has helped him find his inner Hemingway, and while much lies before him, his feet are firmly on the path to success and discovery!”

- Jack Klarr (BA ’75, History) and son, Thomas

Dad’s Most Important Role

“Every professional can admit to having a mentor or role model. Fortunately for me, my role model and mentor has always been my dad, Rick DiBartolomeo.

My dad graduated Western Michigan University in 1981 and went on to lead a successful career in public accounting with Deloitte where he eventually became a partner. He currently is involved in many community organizations serving on their executive boards, and aids the Governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder.

Although he never received any awards or compensation, his most important position has been as ‘dad’. He encouraged me to take some accounting courses in high school— I quickly picked up the concepts and found myself immersed in the subject. At that point, I knew that I was going to follow in my dad's footsteps and go to Western Michigan to study accounting.

I am entering my senior year in the fall with a major concentration in accountancy. Western has been a great experience for me and I could not have done it without the support of my role model, mentor, and most importantly, my dad. Happy Father's Day!”

-Alex DiBartolomeo and dad, Rick (BBA ’81, Accountancy)
