Western Michigan University news and update highlights from around the web for July 4 -10, 2014. This week’s campus photo features participants at the June 2014 commencement ceremony singing the WMU Alma Mater.
The current Alma Mater was written by alumnus James H. Bull (BS ’57, English; MA ’63) in 1959. Bull submitted his lyrics for a contest to replace the existing Alma Mater and Fight Song. Alumnus Walter Gilbert (BA ’60, Mathematics) developed lyrics for the Fight Song and music for the Alma Mater and Fight Song.
Every graduation ceremony features a performance of the Alma Mater, and the opportunity for new graduates and family members to sing along:
Western we sing to you, Brown and Gold. Western we bring to you faith untold. You challenge and inspire; your hope is our desire; We sing to you our Alma Mater, Brown and Gold.
