The Alumni Center on Prospect Hill continues to look more and more complete as the summer months enter full swing.
(To the left) The top image shows the cupola. Earlier this week, it was sprayed with primer. The finished cupola will be painted in three coordinating colors.
The middle image was taken from inside a conference room at the north end of the building on the second level, facing east to showcase the portico.
The lower image shows the west facing side of the building, complete with windows. The primed cornice work at the top will also be painted.
The original staircase in the center of the building has been closed for repairs and refinishing. The second and lower levels are accessible through the new north and south additions, which both have newly installed stairwells. The south addition elevator will be installed in the coming weeks.
The grounds around the center are being graded with top soil, readied for concrete. On the portico that faces Downtown Kalamazoo, or east, the masonry on the retaining wall is nearing completion.
The process of tiling the second level floor has begun, and some areas have even been painted. Soon the building will get lighting fixtures, and electrical will be switched from temporary to permanent.
