A Disney Pilgrimage

A Disney Pilgrimage
On July 7, a group of eight WMU students will embark on a cross country trek as part of a Study in the States trip, “A Journey in the Life of Walter Elias Disney; Chicago to California.”

The nine day trip will begin at Disney’s birth home and end at his burial site in Los Angeles. Along the way, students will travel through Springfield, Illinois to Marceline, Missouri, progressing to Kansas City, Missouri. From there, students will fly to San Francisco and then make their way down to Los Angeles. The trip will end at Disney’s final resting place.

Students will view Disney’s homes, schools, and workplaces, in addition to several learning facilities such as the Walt Disney Hometown Museum, Airline History Museum, The Walt Disney Family Museum, and the Walt Disney Archives, among many others. And of course, the trip will include a stop at Disneyland. The students have been meeting regularly in preparation for the trip, and will be responsible for a photo journal and daily observational/ reflection papers. Once they return home, they will begin work on a paper that is due in August.

The trip is organized and facilitated by Dr. Christopher Tremblay (BA ’94; MA ’99, Communication), Associate Provost for Enrollment Management at WMU, who will be accompanied by Julia Kuntz (BS ’07, Elementary Education; MA ’13, Family and Consumer Sciences), an Engagement Manager from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at WMU. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to meet with local WMU alumni along the way.

You can follow the adventure on social media; the sites and experiences will be documented on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn mainly by the Lee Honors College, but the WMU and MyWMU accounts will also be posting updates regularly.
