In 2014, Western Michigan University announced a new set of scholarships called the Foundation Scholarships. These scholarships are designed to expand access to WMU and to assist new first-year students with the greatest financial aid need. Ten $60,000 Foundation Scholarships and a limited amount of one-time, one-year $3,000 scholarships will be available to new students entering WMU in Fall 2018. Students receiving these scholarships will have at least a 3.70 high school grade point average. These scholarships are designed to provide a financial “foundation” to these students so they can focus on their academic studies. To be considered for the award, students must be either a ward of the state, homeless, Undocumented, or receiving free/reduced lunch in school. Students with other family situations demonstrating high financial need may apply; a determination of eligibility will be made on a case by case basis.
The Foundation Scholarships complement the Medallion Scholarships, which were established in 1983 and target academic scholars. The Foundation Scholarships will be awarded to academic scholars who demonstrate financial need.
Donations received will be used to award these Foundation Scholarships to deserving students who meet the established criteria.
These scholarships are administered by Enrollment Management, Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Lee Honors College. To learn more about the Foundation Scholarship, including deadlines, click here.
