Bronco Safe Return to Play Fund

Safe Return To Play Fund

All across the country, colleges and universities have faced enormous pressure as they confront the challenges presented by COVID-19. At WMU, we’re rising to meet those challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Alongside our commitment to making sure that students have access to high-quality virtual education, our staff at Bronco Athletics are finding innovative ways to keep the Brown & Gold spirit alive on the field through the Safe Return to Play Fund.

The Safe Return to Play Fund provides a unique opportunity for Bronco athletes to represent their teams while also prioritizing their health and safety. Through this fund, private donor support helps offset the cost of routine testing supplies for the nearly 350 WMU student-athletes to return to competition across all 16 Bronco athletics programs. Providing student-athletes a safe environment in which to compete impacts not only our athletics programs, but all of WMU and people in surrounding areas by proactively testing and reporting all cases through proper safety protocols. Our team at Bronco Athletics is confident that implementing these safety measures will open up the opportunity for our student-athletes to do what they love, and to share that with the rest of the Bronco family.

“We are very excited for our Bronco student-athletes to be able to return to play. The MAC and the NCHC have worked meticulously with medical advisors to find the proper protocol to prioritize health and safety, and we will work as active stewards of that plan, not just for our players and coaches, but for our campus and our greater Kalamazoo community. " -- WMU Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard.
