The Department of Chemical and Paper Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University plans to fund a named, endowed professor who will transform the paper program and ensure its legacy. The new faculty member will have the necessary in-depth knowledge of paper coating, printed electronics, Nanomaterials, and biomass processing as well as a strong understanding of new product development that has the potential to enhance the educational exposure and knowledge base for our students. The expanded knowledge base will focus on student research leading to intellectual property and new patents.

The current atmosphere of research and development in the paper industry positions Western Michigan University to significantly raise its already well regarded profile. The addition of a new faculty member capable of conducting collaborative research within the industry while teaching relevant current topics will address the critical need of increased enrollment in and funding for the program.
