For all CEAS friends, faculty and staff with fond memories of Abe Poot’s contributions to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Sunseeker Solar Car Project, a Memorial Fund has been established in his name to accomplish two objectives; first, to provide a permanent installation at WMU in his memory and, second, to support the Sunseeker Solar Car Project.
As a permanent memorial, a bench and plaque will be installed at the new WMU Alumni Center to honor his contribution and our deepest appreciation from CEAS friends and colleagues and the team members and alumni of Sunseeker. After placing the memorial, additional funds will be allocated to the Sunseeker Solar Car Project, an activity, team and students that he dearly loved, advised, cared for, and guided while also donating a tremendous amount of time and energy to while at WMU.
For those who may not have known, his tremendous contributions to Sunseeker and Solar Car Competitions were recognized when the US-based race organization initiated a new American Solar Challenge Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 competition and recognized Abraham Poot as the inaugural recipient.
With the establishment of the Memorial Fund we request that all those who knew Abe and consider donating to WMU and the Sunseeker Solar Car Project please direct your gifts to the Abraham L. Poot Memorial Fund.
