Anastasia began her collegiate career at Kalamazoo Valley Community College before transferring to the Bronson School of Nursing at WMU. After graduation, she moved to Denver, Colorado to begin her career as a nurse.
After her death, Anastasia's parents, Dr. Mark and Cynthia Schauer, set up a memorial scholarship in Anastasia's name. To date, the Anastasia E. Schauer Memorial Scholarship has received more than 250 donations.
A tree was planted on Arbor Day in the Arcadia Commons Campus of KVCC as a symbol of the lives Anastasia impacted—and as a reminder of the future lives that will benefit from her scholarship. WMU College of Health and Human Services Associate Dean Richard Long, and WMU Bronson School of Nursing Director Linda Zoeller were present for the planting.

KVCC Arbor Day Celebration
The celebration of Arbor Day provides our college community with the opportunity to recognize and appreciate our beautiful campus,” said KVCC English and Transitional Studies Instructor Natalie Patchell. “We have been actively doing tree plantings on Arbor Day for the last four years in an effort to become a certified "Tree Campus." And we have added another tradition of remembering individuals who have recently passed by dedicating one of the trees planted in their honor.”
