A Dedicated Librarian
Cheryl TenBrink (BA ’69, Elementary Education; MLS ’78, Library Science) has given a lot back to not only her alma mater, but to the Kalamazoo community as well.

TenBrink graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1966 and has been making her mark on Kalamazoo libraries ever since. After leaving WMU, TenBrink worked for Kalamazoo Public Schools as a librarian for 30 years. During her illustrious career for KPS, TenBrink was the librarian for Kalamazoo Central High School and volunteer for Woods Lake Elementary School.

In May of 2007, TenBrink was elected by the people of Kalamazoo to be a trustee on the Kalamazoo Public Library Board. TenBrink is currently serving her second term as President.

When TenBrink isn’t working hard in the library, she likes to participate in community events. She volunteers for the Susan G. Koman of Southwest Michigan race/walk for the cure of breast cancer. She has walked the race twice and has served as the Materials Distribution Chairperson for the past two years.

She is married to WMU alumnus Burt TenBrink (BS ’70, Sociology) and together they have two sons and six grandchildren spread across Utah, Texas, and Germany. She enjoys traveling and has been to Panama and Costa Rica and is currently planning a trip it Italy.

TenBrink is a huge WMU supporter and goes to events whenever she can.

“I love Bronco sports and attend women’s basketball, volleyball and especially Western football,” TenBrink said. “Go Broncos!”
