During Homecoming weekend, many alumni were honored by their respective colleges, but two alumni were honored with the University's Distinguished Alumni Award, Jan Huston (MA '74, Psychology) and C. Wesley Smith (BS '61 Chemistry). College Alumni Awards are listed below.
Dr. Huston established Summit Breast Care to provide comprehensive and affordable medical services to all women, including the uninsured. In 2007, Dr. Huston continued her goal to provide quality care breast care by joining St. Michael’s Medical Center to lead the Connie Dwyer Breast Center. She has consistently been listed a Top Doctor in the New York Metropolitan Area, and one of New York Magazine’s Top Doctors for Women. In 2011, Dr. Huston was named a Top Surgeon in the Nation. She was the only surgeon, out of 32, on the list, who specialized in breast care. | ||
Mr. Smith began his career at Procter & Gamble, holding various positions for 20 years, guiding the construction and startup of a new mill, and progressing to division manager of three mills and the Midwest engineering division. He then joined International Paper (IP) as Director of Manufacturing Technical Services, and was later promoted to President of IP Europe. In 1992, Mr. Smith became Executive Vice President for the entire printing papers business where he was responsible for a corporate staff in six different areas, 18 million acres of woodlands, and a $6 billion portion of IP. |
