Dr. Vanden Heuvel obtained his master’s in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University and went on to complete his PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing postdoctoral studies in developmental nephrology in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, Vanden Heuvel became an assistant professor at East Carolina University School of Medicine and subsequently spent 12 years on the faculty in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUMC). He spent the past year as the Ruth Kraft Strohschein Endowed Professor of Biology at Wheaton College. He maintained an NIH funded laboratory, investigating cell cycle regulation in kidney development and Polycystic Kidney Disease. He has published more than 40 peer reviewed scientific articles, served on several NIH study panels, and supervised six PhD students in his lab at KUMC.
