On September 10, about 20 San Diego-based Bronco alumni gathered to watch the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres baseball game. What made it special was Bronco alumnus Adam Rosales ('05), who plays for the Padres, donated the tickets and arranged for the group to meet him on the field before the game.
Elizabeth Patrick (B.S.’03, Exercise Science), who works as a subcontract administrator for General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., helped coordinate the event. Patrick says that there is a large group of WMU alumni in San Diego, and about 15-20 coordinate at least one event per year.
This night at the ballpark came about when Patrick and Antwan Joseph (B.B.A.’03, Sales and Business Marketing) went to a Padres game earlier this summer, and Joseph mentioned Rosales used to play for the Bronco baseball team. Patrick remarked that it would make a fun alumni event, and got in touch with WMU Development and Alumni Relations while Joseph got in touch with Rosales.
The event concluded with a post-game gathering at a local tap house.
"It's important to stay connected with Alumni because it's been my experience that people are always willing to help out a fellow Bronco," Patrick commented in an email. "I'm flying out of Madrid, Spain right now after visiting one of my teammates from the WMU synchronized skating team. It was definitely nice to see her, catch up and have a local tour guide."
MyWMU/The Office of Development and Alumni Relations will be back in California later this year, gathering at Draft Republic in San Diego on November 9 and at Gladstone’s in Long Beach on November 10. Click here to learn more.
