When Chase Bonhag (BBA '12, Sales & Business Marketing) started looking for a job, it became clear to him immediately that there had to be a better way. After seeing a statistic that said only 56% of 2011 college graduates would get a job within a year of graduation, he knew he could do something to fix it.

Bonhag and his friend, Tyler Bailey—currently a film student at WMU— founded HireStarts in the fall of 2011. It is an online social network, currently free of charge, designed to connect employees with students who are looking for entry-level jobs or internships. They also offer resume editing services.

The business and their efforts were recently profiled in the Kalamazoo Gazette (a link to the original story can be found below).

Last April, HireStarts.com won BOOST! Detroit, a start-up business competition at Oakland University and in June, they sponsored Social Media in Detroit (along with other social media networks).

The young business owners are watching their business grow steadily and hope to launch a new version of the site this fall, and move into an office building later this month.
