Western Michigan University announced its 15th football coach on Tuesday—the youngest coach in the FBS. P.J. Fleck's coaching approach has been described as having limitless energy, limitless possibility, limitless passion, limitless enthusiasm, limitless drive, limitless achievement, and limitless opportunity.
Coach Fleck's most recent position was wide receivers coach for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a college player, he was wide receiver at Northern Illinois University where he earned All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2003. In 2004, he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent and played two seasons.
From 2007 to 2009, Fleck was NIU's wide receivers coach, and had the same position at Rutgers from 2010-11. Resigning from the position the day after being named NIU's offensive coordinator, he ended up in Tampa Bay.
WMU athletics used the hashtag #limitless during the announcement to live tweet and gain feedback on the recent decision.
David Drew, WMU Sports Journalist from MLive and the Kalamazoo Gazette made the morning rounds on radio talk shows Tuesday morning—speculating that the new coach could potentially help recruitment efforts, attracting young players eyeing a shot at the NFL.
At a press conference on Tuesday Fleck's energetic speech spoke volumes about where he wants to take the Broncos—happy to be 'back in the MAC,' and excited to establish a new generation of Bronco Football.
