On the Great Wall

On the Great Wall
Wife and husband, Julie Royal-Ferris (BS '81, Communication) and Scott Ferris (BS '77; MS '82, Physical Education) recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary—on the Great Wall of China, rocking their Bronco gear!

What's the story behind this proud Bronco couple?

"
My Wife and I meet in the Athletic Department at WMU, I was the Head Men’s Soccer Coach and she was the assistant Athletic Ticket Manager. We met in Read Field house during a Basketball Game—my team was selling programs at the game and she was working at the ticket window, that was the winter of 1978," Scott said.

Scott takes several business trips to China each year, and Julie had never been, so they decided to take the trip to celebrate 30 years of marriage.

"We are proud Broncos and we bleed Brown and Gold! We thought it would be great to have our picture taken on the Great Wall with our Bronco Gear on, what else would we wear? Funny thing is I have a lot of WMU shirts that I wore during our trip and when I wore one of them—undoubtedly one or two people each day would come up to me and say they had friends or family that went to WMU. That happened in not only Beijing, but Shanghai and Hong Kong—small world and getting smaller all the time!"

In fact, Scott said that it's not unusual to meet other Broncos abroad, "
If you wear your WMU Shirts proudly as you travel the world, don’t be surprised if someone taps you on the shoulder with a WMU story to tell you, it happens to me all the time."

Congratulations to Julie and Scott on their 30th Anniversary!
