Regional Treasure

Regional Treasure
Sharon Carlson (BS '87, Political Science; MPA '91, Public Administration; PhD '02, History), director of the Western Michigan University Archives and Regional History Collections, has the important responsibility of daily and long-term planning of her unit, which includes many regional treasures: historical collections of manuscripts, newspapers, photographs, maps, oral histories, and other materials documenting the history of southwestern Michigan.

Carlson, who also serves as an associate professor, has been director of the archives since 1998 and is certified by the Academy of Certified Archivists. Most recently, she has been involved in planning and implementing moving 30,000 cubic feet of manuscripts and books to the new (currently under construction) Zhang Legacy Collections Center.

On Friday, June 28, Carlson will close the 2012-13 Keystone Community Bank Breakfast Series at the Haworth College of Business. Her presentation is titled WMU Archives: A Regional Treasure and will share insights into the collections and plans, including information about the collection's legacy.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Please  call (269) 387-6059 or click here to register. Free parking is available. The presentation will be in the dean's conference room in Schneider Hall (Haworth College of Business).
