Zajac was a linebacker on the Bronco Football team for four years—he is one of four Broncos to play in 50 football games. In December 2012, he graduated with a 3.95 GPA and is currently working on a graduate degree at WMU.
In mid November, Zajac was working the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to collect donations for families affected by Hurricane Sandy. That very weekend he traveled to Chicago to compete against 13 other finalists for a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford. Two recipients were chosen, along with 30 others selected from regions across the United States. The selected few will begin their studies at Oxford next October.
Unfortunately, Zajac did not make the final cut, but he was excited and honored to sit in the same room with the judges and other finalists. Had he been selected, Zajac would have been the first WMU Student and the first student athlete in the MAC to receive the prestigious scholarship. In any case, getting as close to Oxford in the way Zajac did is a big deal.
In order to be considered, Zajac submitted a 1,000 word essay, eight letters of recommendation, a resume of service projects and achievements, and an institutional endorsement from WMU President Dr. Dunn.
