Seeking a Cure

Seeking a Cure
Paul Hutchins, former Bronco Football player and offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers, is a new ambassador for a foundation working to help thousands of people diagnosed with a somewhat unknown disease.

The NephCure Foundation is the only organization solely committed to seeking a cause and cure for Nephrotic Syndrome and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). It is estimated the more than  8,000 people are diagnosed annually with Nephrotic Syndrome and 5,600 patients are diagnosed annually with FSGS.

In 2009, Hutchins underwent a double kidney transplant after both of his kidneys failed due to FSGS.  This is the first time he has been attached to NephCure, which works to identify patients and families, and supports research seeking a cure. Ambassadors have the task of drawing attention to the Foundation.

Hutchins will join several other big names as an ambassador, including Alonzo Mourning, Ed Hearn, Jim Gerlach, Gaylon Hyder, Rebecca Budig, David Ragan, and Herschel Walker.

After a successful football career at WMU, Hutchins was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1993. Over the course of three years, he played in 17 games as an offensive tackle.
