Laying the foundation for a new era of college education, the Empowering Futures Gift has given WMU an unparalleled opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and the community. This historic $550 million contribution will remove barriers that often keep underrepresented and underserved students from starting their collegiate journey or seeing it through to graduation.
So That All May Learn
Funding received from this extraordinary gift will provide a tuition-free education, as well as low-cost housing, an innovative Living Learning Community, internship stipends to foster career development and graduation scholarships for 1,350 new and current Broncos during year one alone.
With anticipated launch this coming fall, some of the latest developments related to Empowering Futures include:
- A Navigator Program especially for first-generation students, those who are Pell Grant-eligible or from marginalized communities. It will provide guidance and assistance from multiple divisions for everything from finding academic help to connecting with counseling support.
- Health and well-being programs that include personalized approaches to meet individual needs.
- Further developing the paid internship program first announced in December 2021 that gives undergraduates from the second year onward the chance to complete project-based, professional work with local organizations.
