Mr. Wayne began his acting career in Cleveland's Shakespearian Repertory. After serving in the military during World War II, he began his Broadway acting career.
He received Tony Awards for his portrayal of Og in Finian's Rainbow in 1947 and for his role as Sakini in Teahouse of the August Moon in 1954.
In addition to his continuing Broadway career, he appeared in many movie including Adam's Rib and The Tender Trap. Throughout his career, he also had numerous roles in television.
