Mrs. DeWende won international awards for her design of apparel, decorative accessories and home furnishings.
In 1960, she founded Bolivia's first exporting firm of handmade products, making the production, sale and export of Bolivian handicraft economically important and financially beneficial for hundreds of small family enterprises.
For this she received high honor form the Bolivian government. She organized the Bolivian Federation of Business and Professional Women.
