Mr. Watterson began his career in education, first as a teacher and later as school superintendent. He then worked for General Motors as an accountant and engineer for fourteen years.
He joined Angle Steel Corporation in 1950 and rose through the ranks from sale s manager to secretary/treasurer and, later, to president and general manager.
Mr. Watterson was a member of the original WMU Board of Trustees, in 1964, and served on the board for ten years.
