C. Patrick Babcock, B.A. '67

Mr. Babcock received a master's degree from Wayne State University in 1969. He began his career as a caseworker for the Michigan Department of Social Services.

He later directed the state's Office of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism, the Office of Services to the Aging, and the Department of Labor.

In 1981, he was appointed director of the Department of Social Services, the larges cabinet level department. In 1991, he became a senior program consultant for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Lawrence W. Lezotte, B.A. '63

Dr. Lezotte earned a master's from WMU in 1965 and a doctorate from Michigan State University in 1969. He joined the MSU faculty and served for 18 years as a teacher and an administrator.

He collaborated with two colleagues on studies that identified the characteristics of effective schools and became the preeminent spokesperson for the effective schools approach.

He worked with educators across the country to improve the quality of education through its implementation.

William R. Lajoie, B.S. '56

Mr. Lajoie, a collegiate All American, signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles in 1956 and was a minor league standout for ten years before an injury curtailed his playing career.

He joined the Detroit Tiger organization in 1968 as a scout and was later named vice president.

In 1983, he became the Tigers' general manager and is credited with initiating several of the transactions which resulted in the team winning the 1984 World Series and a division championship in 1987.
