Hackley Elbridge Woodford, B.A. '36

Dr. Woodford received his medical degree from Howard University. A flight surgeon during World War II, he had a private practice for 15 years. In 1960, he was appointed chief of medicine at St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital and was later named chief of staff.

He became a partner in the Kaiser Southern California Permanente Medical Group in 1970 and was the first in that group to be certified as a specialist by the American Board of Family Practice.

He is a charter member of the World Medical Association.

Judith Taack Lanier, B.A. '58

Ms. Lanier earned a doctorate from Michigan State University. A distinguished professor of teacher education and dean of the MSU College of Education, she is regarded as one of the nation's foremost leaders in education.

She has been president of the Holmes Group, a consortium dedicated to improving teaching and learning. In 1990, she was named president of the Michigan Partnership for New Education.

She is the recipient of the 1991 McGraw Prize in Education.

Karen S. Behnke, B.S. '79

Ms. Behnke, a registered nurse, founded Execu-Fit Health Programs, Inc. in 1983. Under her leadership, the San Francisco-based company grew into a nationwide health promotion business with annual revenues in excess of $5 million and more than 100 corporate clients in thirty states.

In 1991, she sold the company but remains its president. She was named San Francisco Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in 1987 and has received numerous awards from the American Heart Association.
