Mr. Dombrowski was hired by the Chicago White Sox in 1978 and held several positions with the club including vice president of baseball operations. He was general manager for the Montreal Expos when he was named general manager and executive vice president of the Florida Marlins, a new franchise, in 1991.
The team he built from the ground up made baseball history by winning the 1997 World Series in their fifth season of competition.
