John J. Pruis, B.S. '47

John J. Pruis, B.S. '47

Dr. Pruis, a retired U.S. Navy captain, received master's and doctoral degrees from Northwestern University. He was a college professor from 1951 to 1955, then returned to WMU as an administrator, serving in a number of capacities, including vice president.

In 1968, he was named president of Ball State University. He later served as vice president of the Ball Corporation. A recipient of four honorary degrees, he is a past president of the North Central Association of Colleges.

L. David Carley, B.A. '50

Dr. Carley received a master's degree from Kalamazoo College and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. He was president of Inland Steel Development Corporation from 1969 through 1975 and served three years as president of the Medical College of Wisconsin.

He later presided over National Public Television. A recognized authority in regional/urban planning and resource development, he has shared his expertise with national and international agencies.

Loretta Moore Long, B.A. '60

Dr. Long earned a doctorate of education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

As a teacher in the traditional sense, as a singer, and as an actress, she is considered a pioneer in bringing a new dimension to education.

Her portrayal of Susan on the long-running public television show Sesame Street endeared her to millions of pre-school and elementary-school-aged children.

Max Wilcox, B.M. '51

Max Wilcox, B.M. '51

Mr. Wilcox received a master's degree from Columbia University. A pianist and conductor, he gained prominence as a producer of classical recording for RCA Victor Red Seal from 1958 through 1974.

In 1974, he became an independent producer/engineer for major labels. His productions have won fifteen Grammy awards and received a high order of international recognition.
